Wests Tigers utility Dene Halatau was on hand on Friday to help out at the Daystars Literacy Buddies Program, with the end-of-season wrap-up held at Clayton Utz.

The program, which combined lawyers at Clayton Utz and students from Sarah Redfern Public and High School, has been running for more than a decade, and sees letters exchanged between both to enhance literacy and give students a positive role model.

Halatau, who was nominated for the Ken Stephen Medal in 2014 for his oustanding community work, attended the end-of-season wrap-up on Friday, speaking about his time in rugby league as well as the importance of having a life away from the field.
