Wests Tigers will take on the North Queensland Cowboys, Gold Coast Titans and St. George-Illawarra Dragons at Leichhardt Oval in 2018 — three important fixtures that could prove crucial throughout the year for Ivan Cleary’s side.
After a tough start to the year that sees Wests Tigers on the road on several occasions, the first Leichhardt Oval game of the year will come in Round 10 when the 2017 Grand Finalists in North Queensland roll in to town. Wests Tigers enjoyed success in Ivan Cleary’s first game as Coach when they met in Round 6, 2016, and fans will no doubt be hoping for a similar result when they clash on the unusual Thursday night game.
Leichhardt Oval has never seen a Thursday night game before, and with an impressive record against the Cowboys — having not lost since 2001 — it’s shaping up as an intriguing fixture for both sides as they head in to the Origin period in the near future.
The second game at Leichhardt will come after the standalone Origin weekend — giving both Wests Tigers and the Gold Coast 14 days to prepare for the contest on July 1.
A Sunday afternoon classic awaits at 2:00pm as Wests Tigers look to extend their winning record at the venue to three in a row and interestingly, win their first game against the Titans at Leichhardt Oval since a 20-18 victory back in Round 11, 2008.
Another unfamiliar opponent will head to Leichhardt Oval for the Club’s third and final home game of the year at the venue, with the St. George-Illawarra Dragons set to take to the field on Saturday afternoon for their Round 23 match. Not since 2001 have the Dragons made their way to the Inner West, and with possible finals ramifications on the line for both teams, it’ll be fascinating to see how the contest plays out on the night.
