NRL CEO Todd Greenberg joined hundreds of high school students in Western Sydney on Wednesday as part of Harmony Day celebrations.
Mr Greenberg also announced additional Inclusion, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Vilification Frameworks for the game, which outline Rugby League's commitment to ensuring a safe, welcoming and inclusive sport for its players, participants and fans.
He said the Frameworks had been a collaborative process over the past two years, in partnership with the Australian Human Rights Commission.
"Rugby League is a game that welcomes many different nationalities and includes many different people from all walks of life," Mr Greenberg said.
"Part of the popularity and draw of our game is our determination to be a sport that is respectful and free from vilification and discrimination.
"I thank all of our community and mental health expert partners and in particular, the Australian Human Rights Commission, for their ongoing support and expert advice as we strive to improve inclusivity across our game."
Australian Human Rights Race Discrimination Commissioner, Dr Tim Soutphommasane said the NRL had a significant opportunity and voice to continue to be a leader for positive change and inclusion amongst communities.
"I commend the NRL for their efforts in countering discrimination and racism and in promoting inclusion and respect," Dr Soutphommasane said.
"My challenge to the rugby league community – and to all sporting communities – is to continue to ensure that players, spectators and supporters, regardless of their background, have a place in the game."
Mr Greenberg was joined by Federal Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, the Honourable Alan Tudge and NSW State Minister for Multiculturalism and Disability Services, the Honourable Ray Williams, as part of Harmony Day celebrations in Western Sydney.
The trio took part in a traditional Harmony Walk as part of the celebrations.
This is the NRL's sixth Harmony Day Festival.
