Wests Tigers centre Moses Mbye says his side are a better team than in previous seasons and are ready to continue their run to the finals this Thursday against the North Queensland Cowboys.
Mbye's Wests Tigers showed great resilience to fight back from 12-0 down early on against the Newcastle Knights last week and move to within one win of the top eight, and the centre said that was testament to the growth in the team in 2019.
"I think we're a lot more experienced as a group, but I also think we're playing better footy this year too," Mbye told reporters in the wash-up from Round 19.
"We've been inconsistent in terms of the results of games, but some of the patches of footy that we've been playing has been quite good.
"We've been competing with some of the best sides in the competition, so I think that we're a better side than what we have been in previous years.
"We're a more resilient side, and sometimes that's what it takes.
"It's anyone's competition and anything can happen."
Be there at Leichhardt Oval this Thursday!
With the club not tasting finals football since 2011, captain Mbye said he understood the fans' confidence in their ability this year might not be where it once was, but said he was convinced support would hold them in good stead throughout the year.
"I think we're better for it compared to last year," Mbye reflected.
"I know it's easy to say that and tell the fans what we're going to do but until we do it and show that we can play September footy, there's no point really say much.

"We just need to let our actions do the talking.
"We know when we march in to September, we'll have our full fan base behind us."
For Wests Tigers, that starts again this Thursday night as they return home to Leichhardt Oval for the first time since a season opener against the Sea Eagles — looking to win back-to-back matches for just the third time this year.
"We know we have to win," Mbye said.
"If we keep winning games then we put ourselves in the best possible position to play finals football and that's what we're here to do.
"For us, it's just about keep winning games and momentum.
"It's a big game for us at at Leichhardt and a big occasion so we need to perform."
