Trials continue for junior grades as season approaches

Wests Tigers junior representative teams continued their pre-season preparation over the weekend with a number of trial matches in the lead-up to Round 1 of the 2020 season.

With the Tarsha Gale, Harold Matthews, SG Ball and GSR competitions kicking off in early February, the club's seven associated junior teams were all in action over the weekend against Canberra, Monaro and South Sydney.

Western Suburbs Harold Matthews were the standout from a five-game program at Camden on Saturday with a strong win over the Raiders in a game played in three 20-minute intervals. Canberra would get the job done over Wests in SG Ball, however, in a game played in three 25-minute intervals.

Wests Tigers two GSR sides also produced determined efforts against Monaro in the lead up to the start of the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cup competitions.

Balmain continued their good preparations for the season ahead with strong wins over the Rabbitohs in Harold Matthews (won 32-12) and SG Ball (won 32-20).

The Tigers will begin their season on Saturday, February 8 against Penrith.

Wests Tigers Tarsha Gale rounded out a big weekend of action with a good performance against Canberra, who finished stronger to win three tries to two. The result was a big improvement from the side's previous trial, and with a number of injured players still to come back in to the fold for Round 1, Wests Tigers are shaping for a strong season ahead in the U/18's ladies competition.

The Tarsha Gale side will also face Penrith in Round 1 on Saturday, February 8.
