Wests Tigers women set for last tune-up before finals

Wests Tigers Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership side will face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at TG Millner Field on Sunday as they look to make it back-to-back wins heading into the finials.

Off the back of last week's strong win over the Wentworthville Magpies, a win for Wests Tigers on Sunday would secure third spot on the competition ladder ahead of the start of the 2020 finals series the following weekend.

Captain Botille Vette-Welsh said the side had responded well after last week's win and understood the importance of Sunday's clash against South Sydney.

“It was an awesome opportunity for us to be able to play the game at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence and prepare in their great facilities,” said Vette-Welsh.

“It's even better to get a good win leading into the final round. We are learning to be patient and resilient in the grinding stages of the game — trusting our process and continuing to build pressure and knowing we'll get results.

“It's pretty important that our preparation [this week] doesn't change, regardless if the game will impact our position in the finals.

“We have a strong leadership crew amongst the team that set the standards for training and are great at reminding the girls that all the sacrifices and hard work that we've done so far is our best preparation going forward.”

“There is a bit of hype around fighting for the finals spots but that's not bothering us," she said. "With the crazy year it has been for everyone with COVID-19, it's just another game that we are grateful to play.

“We've all worked extremely hard to get where we are and if we continue to work hard for each other and trust the process the results will come.”
