Wests Tigers will be on the hunt for back-to-back wins for the first time since Round 13 when they face the North Queensland Cowboys on Saturday evening in Women in League Round.

Following a 12-point triumph over Canterbury-Bankstown in Round 21, Michael Maguire’s men will need to continue their momentum to stay in touch with the top eight — sitting two wins outside a finals spot with four rounds remaining.

A win would keep Wests Tigers’ finals aspirations alive, however a loss would be a significant blow to their chances of a top eight finish.

Although Maguire was pleased to leave the Gold Coast with two competition points last Sunday, the coach described his side’s performance as “scrappy” and said they’ll need plenty of improvement this time around.

The NRL has been given the green lights by the Queensland Government for the match to remain in Townsville, meaning Wests Tigers will travel north on Saturday morning ahead of the Round 22 fixture.

It will be the first time Wests Tigers have played at Queensland Country Bank Stadium since its conception last year.

The Cowboys will be looking to snap an eight-game losing streak; however their task hasn’t been made easier with three key players ruled out through injury.

Jason Taumalolo has been ruled out of Saturday’s clash after scans confirmed a hand fracture while Murray Taulagi and Lachlan Burr also miss out.

A key matchup on Saturday night will be the battle of the five-eighths — Adam Doueihi and Scott Drinkwater.

The two powerful playmakers love to take on the line and have the potential to create a try-scoring opportunity out of nothing. Doueihi has made nine line-breaks in 18 games while Drinkwater has chalked up 33 tackle breaks. Both men have 16 try assists for the season to sit inside the top 10 in that category.
