Luke Brooks has expressed his delight at the freedom playing five-eighth has allowed him to achieve in recent weeks.
After kicking the match-winning field goal in Wests Tigers’ Round 7 victory over South Sydney, Brooks was again impressive in last weekend’s tight defeat to St. George Illawarra, with his late score giving the away side a chance to try and steal the game.
“I feel like going into the games I’ve just felt a lot freer in my mind, it’s been good, I’m really enjoying my footy at the moment," Brooks said.
I’ve noticed a difference; on my way to the game and on the day of the game I just feel a lot more relaxed and yeah, I guess that’s helping my footy.”

When pressed on whether his solid performances in the #6 jersey have led him to believe his future lies in the five-eighth role, he explained that his new halves partner has had a big impact on his form.
“I think it depends on your halves partner as well, I think it suits me with Jacko at halfback and with him in the side I suit being a five-eighth.
“[He’s brought] confidence to my game and he’s got the belief that the way we’re playing will work.
After last week’s tough loss, the 27-year-old is making no excuses and is adamant that his side will be back to winning ways soon.
“We’re building nicely but we do have improvements to make as well.
“We’ll be fixing up a few little details which I think will really help us this week.
“We’ve gotten out of that rut at the start of the year and now it’s on us to keep playing good footy”.
