Dream start for our Women's first-timers

Excitement continues to build around our Harvey Norman Women’s team as it prepares for Sunday’s Round 3 match against North Sydney.

The girls head into the clash unbeaten, having won against the Roosters at the weekend, following a season-opening victory over South Sydney.

The Round 1 win over the Rabbitohs was not just a first for the season, but a first appearance for rising stars Tess Staines and Bianca Bennetts. Adding to the significance of the occasion, was having Wests Tigers Chairman Lee Hagipantelis on hand to present the girls with their jerseys before the game.

Staines is from the Riverina while Bennetts – or ‘Pockets’ as she is known - is a Wests Tigers junior, who played alongside current teammates Emily and Sophie Curtain at Eagle Vale St Andrews when she was just thirteen.

Keele Brown and Tayla Preston also made their club debuts in the season opener, while Kezie Apps played her first game for the club in Sunday’s first ever win over Sydney Roosters.

And there’ll be another ‘first’ this weekend.

Former Dally M winner Jess Sergis will join the list of Wests Tigers debutantes on Sunday when she runs out against the Bears, having fully recovered from an ankle injury.

Coach Brett Kimmorley says it’s been a great start to the season on many fronts.

"That we’ve had two good wins is great, and we hope to build on that this weekend.

What is also really rewarding is seeing so many girls play for this club for the first time."

For many of them it caps years of hard work as they’ve come through the pathways and it sets a benchmark for other young girls to aspire to.”
