Wests Tigers captain James Tamou is free to play in his team’s final game of the season after having a contrary conduct charge downgraded at the NRL Judiciary.
Tamou was sent off by referee Ben Cummins for dissent during his side's loss to the Roosters on Saturday night and was hit with a grade three charge which carried a two-match ban with an early plea.
Tamou pleaded guilty to the incident but has been successful in having the grade three charge reduced to a grade two charge.
It means he is now free to play in the club’s final game of the season against Canberra Raiders in Round 25 at Leichhardt Oval.
When giving evidence Tamou said he was highly emotional at the time of the incident, “I wasn’t thinking straight and my mind was clouded.”
Adding, "In 300 games I’ve played I don’t think I’ve ever sworn at a referee."
I know their job is hard enough at it is. I understand that and I was extremely remorseful after the game."

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe and Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell were by Tamou’s side at the hearing.
“As a club we are delighted that James is free to play one more game this season,” said Pascoe.
“He’s a wonderful person and has been a terrific leader at our club over the past two seasons.
“He was genuinely remorseful after being sent off and showed great character to front up and immediately apologise for his actions.
“We are so happy for him and his family, as I’m sure are all Wests Tigers members and fans.”
Wests Tigers play St George Illawarra Dragons on Sunday at CommBank Stadium in the penultimate round of the season.
