Wests Tigers Community team has once again been praised for its work in the local community, following a six-month program with a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation group.

WHO (We Help Ourselves) is one of the largest non-government treatment providers in Australia, offering a range of treatment and support services for individuals with drug and alcohol associated issues.

Wests Tigers has worked with WHO previously, however the partnership was reactivated this year for the first time since 2019.

Every Friday morning since May, Wests Tigers Community team has joined the residents of WHO at Leichhardt Oval, delivering a one-hour program of physical activity.

It’s another example of Wests Tigers delivering on its mission statement -  “Enriching the lives of our community”, and the great work has not gone unnoticed.

Those participating in Wests Tigers program at WHO - which has 200 clients admitted each year - have requested anonymity, however they have asked that their comments be heard.

“When you are on a treatment journey like me, as with others at WHO, you focus on getting better, fixing relationships and reconnecting with the world.

"A lot of stuff goes on in your head but the chance to run around and do some physical exercise with people from the Wests Tigers once a week has been so good for me,” said one client.

And this from another resident, “I’m really hoping to work in sports when I leave WHO, and I don’t think that would have been something I thought was possible before the sessions with the Wests Tigers.”

The staff at WHO have also been highly appreciative of the community team’s efforts.

“Wests Tigers people certainly know how to connect with our clients who have all sorts of issues they are working through,” said one staff member.

Wests Tigers staff take everything in their stride and work with everyone who wants to participate. Please come back next year."

“Help comes in many forms and it’s a rewarding part of our job,” said Diamond.

“We have a super team of really committed people here at Wests Tigers.

Both Kenny (Tuala) and Grace (Hull) have done an awesome job leading this program for the majority of the sessions.”
