Friday Focus: Round 3 vs Bulldogs

Wests Tigers will embark on their first away trip of the season on Sunday as they travel down Burwood Road to the historic Belmore Sports Ground.

Tim Sheens will be looking for a reinvigorated performance against the Bulldogs after his side suffered a narrow defeat to a depleted Newcastle outfit last weekend.

The Bulldogs will be brimming with confidence after a strong performance against the Storm, which saw them pile on five unanswered tries at AAMI Park.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash, we’re taking a closer look at the battle of two superstar wingers who will be looking to overcome a slow start to the season and leave their mark on the match.

David Nofoaluma will line-up on the right wing for Wests Tigers as he hunts his first NRL try of 2023.

Nofoaluma is the club’s leading try-scorer with 95 tries in his 177 appearances in the black, white and orange, and has spoken about his reignited passion for the game following a short stint at the Storm last season.

The Samoan international has scored four tries in his last five matches against the Bulldogs and will be hoping to continue his try-scoring record at Belmore, after crossing the line in Wests Tigers’ trial victory over the Raiders at the suburban ground.

To do so, he’ll have to overcome a strong defensive left-edge for the Bulldogs, who have only conceded two tries in the first two rounds of the competition.

The highest-profile member of that left-edge defence is Australian representative Josh Addo-Carr, who will be looking to build on his tally after crossing for his first try for the season last week.

The man affectionately known as ‘The Fox’ holds a strong record against Nofoaluma, having won four of the five clashes between the pair.

Addo-Carr began his career at Wests Tigers in 2016 before moving to Melbourne and developing into one of the most-prolific try-scorers in the competition.

He has now scored 119 tries in 152 NRL matches and holds a winning percentage upwards of 69%.

A win in the battle between 'Nofa' and 'The Fox' could help Wests Tigers secure its first win of the season.
