Nominations are now open for the tenth annual Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year award, which acknowledges the contributions and positive impact that Australian dads have made to their families and community, both on and off the football field.

From coaching the local junior team; to painting fresh lines on the pitch; to raising funds for new equipment, Australia’s dads are true unsung heroes in keeping community sport alive.

The Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will be provided with a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to his sporting club of choice for some new gear or sporting equipment.

Last year's winner was president of the Lightning Ridge JRL club, Bradley Benjamin.

“Rugby League is an outlet for all our kids to stay healthy and active," said Bradley.

The social aspect sport brings to communities is invaluable

Bradley Benjamin

"Together we are supporting each other during the footy season and making lifelong friendships.”

Every athlete has their story of who has supported them over the years. In many cases it's a parent who has committed their weekends to champion community sports from the sidelines or behind the scenes.

This Award is an opportunity to come together and collectively say thanks ahead of Father’s Day.

Nominations are now open and close midnight on 22 August.

To nominate a local football dad, submit 100 words on why they should win via www.sportsdads.com.au/community.

The winner will be notified prior to Father’s Day, Sunday, 3 September.
