Match Preview: NSW Cup Round 5 vs Bears

Wests Magpies take on the North Sydney Bears on Sunday in Round 5 of the Knock On Effect NSW Cup.

The Magpies are coming off a terrific Easter Monday win over the Eels having suffered a 1-point loss to the Jets in Round 3.

There are a handful of changes to the side that defeated the Eels including a new pairing in the halves.

With Latu Fainu named to make his NRL debut against the Dolphins, and Iverson Matai rested (HIA Protocol), Brent Naden will wear the No.7 jersey alongside James Valevatu at five-eighth.

The Magpies also welcome back hooker Jake Simpkin who was rested last week after a heavy head knock against the Jets in Round 3.

Coming off the bye, the Bears opened the season with solid wins over the Dragons and Warriors before suffering a big loss in their most recent game against the Knights in Newcastle.

Coach Comments – Aaron Payne

We have trained well, and we are building momentum and I look forward to seeing that continue this weekend.

It’s a famous old ground, two foundation clubs, and a game we are all excited about.
