At Scully Park, Tamworth, Penrith led 18-0 at half-time and never let their lead slip.
Jesse McLean was first to score for the home side, before former Magpie Daine Laurie and Harrison Hassett extended the Panthers lead.
It was the Magpies though who scored the first try of the second half through recent recruit Krystian Mapapalangi. A sweet cutout ball from Kurt Falls sent the former Newcastle Knight over to bring Wests back into the match.
Four-pointers to Trent Toelau and Casey McLean went on to ensure the Panthers maintained a strong lead at 30-6.
Mapapalangi did produce a moment of magic for the Magpies in the 63rd minute, as he chipped over the top, before kicking the ball forward a second time to grab his third try in three matches for Wests.
Noah Johannssen crashed over shortly after off a Tristan Hope pass close to the line to bring the Magpies within 14 points.
However, tries to Sione Fonua and Preston Riki late on ensured Penrith would come away with a big victory at Scully Park in Round 10.
Panthers 40 (J. McLean, Laurie, Hassett, Toelau, C. McLean, Fonua, Riki tries; Toelau 6/7 goals) defeated Magpies 16 (Mapapalangi 2, Johannssen tries; Falls 2/3 goals) at Scully Park.
