Wests Tigers Empower partners with Western Sydney University

Wests Tigers Empower has partnered with Western Sydney University in a powerful alliance focused on driving generational change across Western Sydney.

With a shared purpose to reduce domestic violence through primary prevention and evidence-based programs, this collaboration will make a meaningful impact.

As part of the partnership, Wests Tigers Empower and Western Sydney University will commit to:

  • Exploring research and education opportunities
  • Reviewing and developing the Empower schools program to ensure genuine outcomes
  • Establishing ongoing communication and strategic collaboration
  • Jointly pursuing grants and philanthropic support

A volunteer/internship program with Wests Tigers will be formalised for Western Sydney University students, to further increase the relationship between the two organisations.

Wests Tigers General Manager of Community, Foundation & Affiliates, Shaun Mielekamp, discussed the significance of the partnership.

This partnership with Western Sydney University is the first step in a long journey to collaborate and make true impact and change in our community.

Wests Tigers Empower aims to be regarded as the most impactful community program in Australian sport. Research-led and focused on building self-confidence, self-awareness, and help-seeking strategies, this partnership with Western Sydney University reflects a commitment to long-term community wellbeing.

Currently, Wests Tigers Empower is delivering three key initiatives across 18 high schools:

Stripes to Success – leadership development

Classroom to Careers – career direction and personal growth

Healthy Relationships – promoting respectful relationships and reducing domestic violence

Students, principals, and community leaders gathered at half-time of the Round 11 NRL clash between the Wests Tigers and Rabbitohs to celebrate the partnership.
