Report: Jersey Flegg Round 12 vs Silktails

The Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg Cup side have ensured their trip to Fiji is a successful one, after coming away with a 34-18 win over the Kaiviti Silktails.

The visitors led for most of the match, however had to overcome a brave Silktails side who just wouldn't go away.

Jared Haywood sent front-rower Harry Delaney crashing over after 11 minutes to give Wests Tigers an early lead, before a looping cut-out ball from Marc Tannous allowed Will Craig to cross in the right corner.

From there though, Kaiviti got right back into the match.

Silktails back-rower Akuila Qoro charged down a Wests Tigers kick, before grubbering the ball ahead and regathering to score, against the run of play.

Just six minutes later, the home side levelled proceedings when they capitalised on a Wests Tigers error, however Archie Duncombe burst through a hole in the 34th minute to give the away team an 18-12 half-time lead.

After the break, Wests Tigers started fast with Cameron Kanaan scoring off the back of a well-worked shift to the left touchline on the last tackle.

As they did in the first half though, Kaiviti just wouldn’t stay down, as they scored off a fumbled bomb, however Tannous went on to set up Solomone Saukuru for a well-worked try to reestablish the Wests Tigers lead.

Kanaan displayed outstanding footwork and speed with very little room to move, as he scored his second try late on, and an outstanding pass from Haywood to Brenden Naicori wrapped up the Wests Tigers victory at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

Wests Tigers 34 (Kanaan 2, Delaney, Craig, Duncombe, Saukuru, Naicori tries; Craig 3/4 goals, Tannous 0/2 goals, Saukuru 0/1 goals) defeated Silktails 18 (Ak. Qoro 2, Nagicu tries; Mainalovo 3/3 goals) at Churchill Park.
