Report: Jersey Flegg Round 13 vs Sharks

The Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg Cup side has scored an outstanding 30-18 victory over the ladder-leading Sharks in Round 13 of the Jersey Flegg Cup.

After trailing 14-12 at half-time, a big second period allowed the Tigers to make it two wins from two under new Interim Head Coach, Shane Sultana.

It was electric fullback Logan Brookes who scored the opening try of the match, as the Balmain SG Ball graduate sliced through after just seven minutes.

Cronulla went on to score through Richard Whalebone and Pharrell Gray (who grabbed an early double) to take a handy 14-4 lead, however Wests Tigers hit back before half time.

An outstanding team move culminated in points for the visitors, with Solomone Saukuru setting up Cameron Kanaan in the corner to finish off the play.

Shortly after, Saukuru proved too much to handle for the Sharks defenders close to the line, as the powerful second rower crashed over to make it 14-12 after 33 minutes.

Wests Tigers burst out of the blocks in the second half, with Max Liles putting his foot to the pedal and racing away from a scrum in the 42nd minute to reestablish their lead.

From there, big Lenny Plati crashed over for another Tigers try to give the away side a 10-point advantage, before Felix Faatili powered through to give Cronulla a sniff.

However, when Elijah Mataale showcased his strength to barge over near the posts, Wests Tigers looked well in control.

Will Craig’s conversion proved to be the final points of the afternoon, as Wests Tigers came away from Henson Park with a victory to remember.

Wests Tigers 30 (Brookes, Naicori, Saukuru, Liles, Plati, Mataale tries; Craig 3/6 goals) defeated Sharks 18 (Gray 2, Whalebone, Faatili tries; Williams 1/3 goals, Clinch 0/1 goals) at Henson Park.
