Women in Sport: Wests Tigers Empower host students at Zurich Centre

The rewarding educational efforts of Wests Tigers Empower were on full display last week, as they hosted a group of female students from Ambarvale High School at the Zurich Centre.

The students were part of the first all-female group to undertake the Wests Tigers Empower ‘Stripes of Success’ program.

Stripes of Success focuses on developing leadership skills, with the group undertaking tasks helping them to understand the behaviours of success.

Led by Akanisi Ledua, Wests Tigers Community Programs and Curriculum Coordinator, the girls discussed the growth and future of women in the sporting industry, as well as some of the challenges they may face.

Female members of Wests Tigers staff, as well as players from the club’s NRLW squad openly shared some of their personal experiences through life and sport, providing the girls with invaluable learnings and advice.

Guest speakers included NRLW Captain Kezie Apps, Women's Football Manager Jess Bygate, and Game Day and Events Manager Jessica Grubba.

Ledua was proud to host the girls at the Zurich Centre as part of the informative experience.

“Partnering with Ambarvale was significant for us because it was our first all-female group for our program delivery,” said Ledua.

We understand the challenges young girls go through in school and in sport, so to be able to share knowledge and experiences with these students was a positive impact for us in our community.

“Students had a great opportunity to listen to our inspirational women in sport here at Wests Tigers. Both staff and our NRLW players shared their journey throughout life and sport.

“We got to learn about their achievements from their own perseverance and breaking barriers in being a woman in sport.”
