Match Report: NRLW Round 9 vs Raiders

Wests Tigers have fallen to a heartbreaking 17-16 golden point defeat to the Raiders at GIO Stadium in Round 9 of the NRLW.

After coming back from a 12-0 deficit to lead in the second half, a clutch Zahara Temara field goal won the match for the Green Machine in overtime.

Teenage fullback Elise Simpson put the Raiders on the board inside the opening two minutes, before back-rower Jordyn Preston extended their lead out to 10-0 when she sliced through the Tigers line.

Wests Tigers did hit back shortly after though, with fullback Caitlin Turnbull producing a quality solo try to get the visitors back into the match.

The Tigers went very close to scoring on the stroke of half-time, however the Raiders’ scramble defence held them out, as the half-time score read 12-4 in favour of the home side.

After half-time, hooker Salma Nour, who provided spark for Wests Tigers when introduced into the match from the interchange bench, capitalised on a Tara Reinke offload to score and make it a two-point ball game.

Just minutes later, the team in orange, white and black hit the lead for the first time in the contest.

Faythe Manera created space when she grubbered and chased for herself, leading to Caitlin Turnbull grabbing her second try on the very next play.

Elise Simpson though ensured Turnbull wasn’t the only fullback to score a double in the match when she scored, before the match entered golden point at 16 points all.

Unfortunately for the visitors, a Zahara Temara field goal would seal the win for the team in green, as they emerged 17-16 victors at GIO Stadium.

Raiders 17 (Simpson 2, Preston tries; Z. Temara 2/3 goals; Z. Temara 1-point field goal) defeated Wests Tigers 16 (Turnbull 2, Nour tries; Bass 2/3 goals) at GIO Stadium.
