Match Preview: NRLW Round 10 vs Eels

Wests Tigers will be out to finish their away campaign on a high when they take on the Eels at CommBank Stadium in a Sunday evening showdown.

Playing as part of a double-header with the club’s NRL side, the Tigers will be aiming to bounce back from a Round 8 loss and finish the final weeks of the season with strong performances.

Both sides are coming off losses last weekend and will be eager to end Round 10 with a positive result as the regular season nears its close.

Head Coach Brett Kimmorley has named an unchanged 17-player squad following last weekend’s golden point heartbreaker in Canberra.

  • Caitlin Turnbull continues to lead the way at fullback, having scored a club-record eight tries in nine appearances this season.
  • Jetaya Faifua and Faythe Manera retain their halves partnership.
  • Emerging forwards Ruby Fifita and Portia Bourke continue to develop with more minutes in the pack.

The Eels have made a few changes in key positions as they aim to keep their slim finals hopes alive:

  • Rosie Beckett returns at five-eighth after clearing concussion protocols, with Fleur Ginn shifting to the centres.
  • Kiana Takairangi will make her long-awaited return to the NRLW after nearly two years on the sideline, named to debut on the wing.
  • In the forwards, Chloe Jackson earns a starting role, with Boss Kapua shifting to the bench.

While Parramatta still has a mathematical chance of playing finals football, they’ll need a vastly improved performance to avoid a third straight loss.

Wests Tigers, meanwhile, have their eyes set on building momentum before their final-round clash at Campbelltown Sports Stadium next week. They’ve shown they can stay in the fight against quality opposition and will be hopeful of going one better this time.

The battle in the middle third will be crucial, with Sarah Togatuki, Amelia Huakau, and Fifita looking to match the Eels' experienced engine room.

The Tigers’ backline, led by the ever-reliable Turnbull, will need to capitalise on attacking chances if they’re to notch their second win of the season.

These two sides are 1-1 in their head-to-head matchups against each other, with Wests Tigers' win coming in their first ever NRLW match.
