The Wests Tigers can confirm the departure of Head of Football, Matthew Betsey as he steps down from the role he has held since late-2023.

Betsey – who joined the Club from Cricket Australia in 2021 – was tasked with heading up the Wests Tigers Pathways, leveraging more than a decade of experience in cricket to implement structures to effectively nurture the Club’s next wave of NRL talent.

Betsey’s remit would extend to the Club’s women’s program, where he played a vital role in the Wests Tigers securing a NRLW License and helped lay the foundations for their inaugural season in the Telstra Women’s Premiership.

Assuming the role of Head of Football ahead of the 2024 NRL season, Betsey worked closely with Head Coach, Benji Marshall and CEO, Shane Richardson during a period of significant change for the Club.

Wests Tigers CEO, Shane Richardson thanked Betsey for his service to the Club.

“We’re grateful for all of the hard work Matt has put in during his time here at the Wests Tigers,” Richardson said.

“He’s been involved right across our football program – from Pathways, Women’s through to the NRL – and made a significant impact in all the roles he's held with us.

“As I’ve said previously, to turn things around as we have in the past 18 months is quite phenomenal and Matt was an important contributor to that work.

“We wish Matt all the very best for the future,” Richardson concluded.

The Wests Tigers will provide further updates on the Head of Football role in due course.
