A new look Wests Tigers NRLW team took their first positive steps for the season ahead with a strong trial performance last weekend.
Under the direction of new Head Coach, Craig Sandercock, Wests Tigers ran in eight tries in a dominant 32-12 win over St George Dragons at Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah, on Sunday.
The Tigers were always in control in their only pre-season hit out before their opening round clash against the Parramatta Eels at CommBank Stadium on Sunday, 5 July.
Sandercock is in his first season of a two-year deal at Wests Tigers after returning to the Club following a previous stint as an NRL Assistant from 2016-19.
Following a tough season in 2025, Wests Tigers have gone through a newly restructured elite women’s program to ensure the Club is more than competitive this year.
Sandercock said he was pleased with the strong trial performance against the Dragons.
“The players stuck to the game plan in terms of where we wanted to get to on the field and executing the appropriate play at the appropriate time,’’ Sandercock said.
“They all played well. Some of our key players were outstanding. (Second rower) Shaylee Bent was probably the best player on the field.
“(Halfback) Raecene McGregor led the team around the park well.
“I was also happy with the intent shown in defence and how hard they competed, because at times in the past, they probably have dropped off a little bit in that area.
“We’re still not completely settled (for Round 1). Obviously, a lot of positions are locked away now, but there's still quite a few.
“The next week of training will show us who is going to be in that final team.
“The girls are very excited for the season to start. They have trained hard under our new High Performance Manager, Richmond Saliba.
“Most of them probably have never trained that hard before. They got out of their comfort zone and hopefully it will stand them in good stead for a decent year.”
