Magpies face must win game against Eels

Western Suburbs Magpies face a must win game in The Knock On Effect NSW Cup on Sunday in their quest to keep their finals hopes alive.

The Magpies sit in 10th place with five rounds remaining heading into the home clash against the Parramatta Eels at Lidcombe Oval. The top five teams contest the finals.

Coach Tyrone McCarthy is looking for a vast improvement from his team that have won two of their past four matches in the past month.

McCarthy wants to see some more aggression from his players after a disappointing 32-4 away loss to Canberra last Saturday.

“We need to show more physicality and take the game to them this week,’’ he said.

“It’s about grinding things out when it gets tough as we know we have got the attacking ability in our team to strike.

“We are at our best when we show some good energy early and then the boys get the rewards off the back of that.”

The Magpies will be looking for their second victory of the season over the Eels following a 30-24 win at CommBank Stadium in round eight.

Wests sit one win outside the top five but face the Eels (11th), North Sydney (second), Dragons (12th), Roosters (sixth) and Souths (fourth) in the run home.
