Wests Tigers Results: Round 1

Wests Tigers succeeded in victory over the weekend with a 20-6 win against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Leichhardt Oval.

Despite fighting through pelting rain during the first-half of the game, both Wests Tigers and Sea Eagles were left try-less during the opening 40 minutes before the home side ran in 20 unanswered points to register their first win of the season.

The club's Canterbury Cup side received much clearer skies for their victory against the Sea Eagles earlier in the day. Leading the game at 6-4 at half time, captain Kauri Aupouri was the star for his side as they ran out 23-4 winners in the end.

Wests Tigers Tarsha Gale side came within a whisker of a stunning upset over the ladder-leading Illawarra Steelers before a late try saw them suffer defeat.

In the junior representative competitions, there were tough defeats in Harold Matthews for both Balmain and Western Suburbs, while the Magpies SG Ball side came from behind to rescue victory in the end over the Silvertails.

Next week will see the start of the season for the club's Jersey Flegg and Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership teams, with Wests Tigers fans in for a tripleheader of action at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Sunday.
