Wests Tigers Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership side will face Mounties on Saturday looking to cap off a remarkable season by booking their place in the 2019 Grand Final.
Coming off a thrilling Extra Time victory last week against North Sydney, Wests Tigers will be determined to keep their incredible inaugural season alive with their biggest test of the season coming up against minor premiers Mounties.
Having lost just one game throughout the regular season, Mounties firmly established themselves as the team to beat in the competition and will be fresh for Saturday's game after a week off. Their 20-14 win over Cronulla in the Preliminary Final put the side just one game away from the Grand Final, and they'll now face off against a Wests Tigers side that few expected to get this far in the competition.
Ending the year in sixth position, the underdogs showed their attacking potential to down Wentworthville in their Elimination Final before digging deep last week against the Bears — fighting back from 16-6 down to somehow stay in the match.
In its debut season in the competition, Wests Tigers have put on a number of outstanding performances but their finals run has been truly remarkable, and they'll be hoping to continue it again on Saturday morning at Leichhardt Oval.
When the two sides met earlier in the season in Round 4, it was Wests Tigers who got off to a perfect start with an early four-pointer before Mounties soon kicked in to gear — running away with a comprehensive 28-4 victory in the end.
Saturday's game is looming as a far closer, and intriguing affair.
