Wests Tigers go down in thrilling Grand Final qualifier

Wests Tigers Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership have produced a remarkable performance in their Grand Final Qualifier today but have fallen just short as the minor premiers scored late to book their place in next week's Grand Final.

With a vocal Leichhardt Oval crowd behind them, Wests Tigers pushed the heavily-favoured Mounties all the way and looked to have done enough to keep their season alive before a late Kaitlyn Phillips try secured a 14-10 win for Mounties.

Ana Fekeila got the scoring going for Wests Tigers after just eight minutes before Patricia Raikadroka hit back to level the match heading in to half-time.

Holding their own against the minor premiers courtesy of their incredible defence, Wests Tigers took the lead once more in the 41st minute when Awhina Akuhata broke through to score. Emily Curtain's successful conversion had the hosts leading by six points before Monique Donovan hit back with eight minutes to play.

A missed conversion from Matilda Power had Wests Tigers in front by two with time running out, before Phillips' late effort put Mounties through to the Grand Final.

Wests Tigers' efforts might have been in vain on the day but the result caps off an incredible debut season in the Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership competition having come from sixth position to right in the mix for the Grand Final.

Mounties RLFC 14 (Raikadroka, Donovan, Phillips tries; Power 1/3 goals) def. Wests Tigers 10 (Fekeila, Akuhata tries; E.Curtain 1/2 goals)
