Pathways Round Up: Round 5

This weekend many of our pathways teams competed in multiple competitions representing the club!

KNOCK ON EFFECT NSW CUP ROUND 5 - RESERVE GRADE

The Magpies went down to a ladder-leading Newtown side on Saturday at Henson Park.

19-year-old centre Junior Tupou crossed for a second-half score to notch up his first try for Western Suburbs.

Wests will have a chance to avenge this result in their home leg of the Tommy Raudonikis Cup at Lidcombe Oval in Round 12.

The Magpies take on Parramatta next Monday at CommBank Stadium in the curtain-raiser to the NRL side’s blockbuster clash.

JERSEY FLEGG CUP ROUND 5 - U/21’s

Wests Tigers’ Jersey Flegg U/21’s side had a tough afternoon on Sunday, losing to an in-form Sharks outfit.

A new-look Tigers’ outfit with three players lining up for their first games of the season was clunky but showed glimpses of promise despite the defeat.

Kade Hill and Michael Tannous made their returns from injury in the loss, while Sione Fainu played his first game in Wests Tigers colours.

Centre Trey Peni crossed for his 4th try this season to maintain his impressive try-scoring record in 2022.

Next up for the Jersey Flegg boys is Parramatta on Friday afternoon at Kellyville Park.

SG BALL CUP ROUND 9 - U/19’s

Balmain Tigers 40 - 26 Manly Warringah Sea Eagles

Cronulla High School, Cronulla

In an outstanding result on Saturday, the Balmain Tigers SG Ball Cup team defeated Manly in a must-win clash to earn a spot in the finals!

In a much-deserved result, skipper Cayne Nicholas and fullback Cathane Hill were once again instrumental, as was interchange forward John Tuipulotu who provided the Tigers with some energy and punch when introduced into the contest.

This win sees Balmain return to the SG Ball Cup finals for the first time since 2019 after finishing 5th at the conclusion of the regular season.

They take on the 6th placed Bulldogs at St Marys Leagues Stadium on Friday morning.

HARVEY NORMAN TARSHA GALE CUP ROUND 9 - WOMEN’s U/19’s

In another awesome Pathways result for Wests Tigers, the Tarsha Gale Cup side scored a late try to not only secure the victory against a tough Cronulla outfit but lock up a place in the 2022 finals!

Hooker Losana Lutu was the Player of the Match, scoring a try and continuing to show why she is considered one of the best players in the Wests Tigers women’s pathways system.

The win means the Tarsha Gale Tigers finish in a Top 4 spot, continuing the great result they had in this competition in 2021.

The finals kick off this weekend with Wests Tigers taking on Illawarra on Friday morning at Ringrose Park, Wentworthville.

HAROLD MATTHEWS CUP ROUND 9 - U/17’s

Balmain Tigers 24 - 16 Manly Warringah Sea Eagles

Cronulla High School, Cronulla

Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews team finished their season on a high, with a win over Manly on Saturday.

Promising second-rower Keenan Lawandos continued his impressive form, getting over for a 5th try in 9 games to make him Balmain’s equal best try-scorer for the season.

Michael Nassar backed up from his double last week to cross for another try.
