Match Report: Jersey Flegg Cup Round 15

Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg Cup outfit has entered the top four of the competition for the first time this season, after coming away with a 30-16 win over Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday.

After conceding an early try, Wests Tigers hit back through forwards, Tuki Simpkins and James Valevatu, to take a 12-4 lead into the main break.

The away side’s outside backs took over after halftime, scoring three unanswered tries, with former Bulldog Kurt Picken, Jay Kirk and impressive centre Livai Saukuru all crossing for four-pointers.

Saukuru has scored three tries in two games since his return to the Jersey Flegg Cup side, after a valuable stint in Knock On Effect NSW Cup.

Second rower Zayn Wilkins scored his first try of the season late, to wrap up the win and put Wests Tigers in a strong position leading into the season’s home stretch.

In more good news, NRL Development Player Lomi Saukuru made a successful return from injury off the interchange bench in the win.

Wests Tigers take on the Knights in a top four showdown in two weeks' time at Campbelltown.
