Pathways Preview: Round 7

A huge weekend for Wests Tigers with ten pathways teams in action, two of which are playing semi-finals, and of course our NRL season-opener against the Raiders in Canberra.

Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg team is playing its second match of the season, Wests Magpies kick off their season in the Knock On Effect NSW Cup, and then we get down to business in the NRL at GIO Stadium, Canberra.

The club has a further eight teams playing in the NSWRL Junior Representative competitions, including finals for our two Macarthur Wests Tigers teams.

Wests Tigers junior women’s teams return to action in Camden, both playing against Canterbury Bulldogs in the Lisa Fiaola Cup and Tarsha Gale Cup.

Also on Saturday at Kirkham Oval, Wests Magpies take on South Sydney in the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup.

Balmain Tigers are also playing on Saturday against the Bulldogs in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball Cup competitions.

And then on Sunday, our Macarthur Wests Tigers teams are in Singleton playing for a spot in the grand final of the Andrew Johns Cup and Laurie Daley Cup!

Knock On Effect NSW Cup

Wests Magpies vs Canberra Raiders

Coach – Aaron Payne

We’re really excited for our first game after a long and productive pre-season.

The focus on Saturday will be on us. We know there are areas in our game where we need to be better, and that’s what we intend to do.

Canberra were very strong through the middle last week against Newcastle so controlling the ruck, as always, will be very important.

Jersey Flegg Cup (U/21s)

Wests Tigers vs Canberra Raiders

Coach – Leon Latuilpe

Although we won against the Silktails, we will look to improve in some areas we didn't do so well in last weekend.

Consistency in our defensive processes is key this week. The focus is on us and how individuals can do their part well for the team.

SG Ball Cup (U19s)

Balmain Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs

Coach – Chris Yates

It’s a really big game for us against the Bulldogs and we have three players making their SG Ball debut.

It will be a first appearance for Jack Hanratty - a cheeky No.7 in the Geoff Toovey mould, Marley Skeene - a speedy winger faster than my first car, and crafty hooker Charles Manapori Reu. We wish them all the best.

SG Ball Cup (U19s)

Wests Magpies vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

Coach – Stephen Isdale

The boys are looking forward to the challenge of facing a skilful Rabbitohs team.

We will continue to focus on what we do as a team and our processes. We will continue our rotation of players so we keep our squad healthy.

Harold Matthews Cup (U17s)

Balmain Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs

Coach – Tony Bazouni

After a tough loss last round, we move on and are up against another premiership contender in the Bulldogs. With semi-final football now out of reach, the squad is focused on finishing off the season on a positive note.

Well done to our development players Charlie Jones, Harrison Aoake and Billy Antonopoulos who are all making their debut.

Harold Matthews Cup (U17s)

Wests Magpies vs South Sydney

Coach – Stephen Isdale

The boys are looking forward to the challenge of facing a skilful Rabbitohs team.

We will continue to focus on what we do as a team and our processes. We will continue our rotation of players so we keep our squad healthy.

Tarsha Gale Cup (U/19s)

Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs

Coach – Adel Hage

It’s a huge week for the Tarsha Gale squad coming up against the high-flying Bulldogs.

The girls have enjoyed the bye and have enjoyed the two weeks of hard work in that period.

Jorja Simpson will return to the squad as our HIA interchange player after nearly 12 months out of the game with an ACL injury.

Lisa Fiaola Cup (U/17s)

Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs

Coach – Scott Clark

This week's game against the Bulldogs has been on our radar since the start of the season and everyone knows how well they are going at the moment.

We are coming of the bye and the team is fresh and excited to be coming up against the title favourites in the Lisa Fiaola Cup.

Being realistic we have nothing to lose, and this will give us a good understanding of how we are travelling as a team and what we will need to work on leading into the remaining games of the season.

Laurie Daley Cup (U/18s)

Macarthur Wests Tigers vs Northern Tigers

Coach – Mitch Tyler

After a really strong performance in our last round game, we now come up against tough opponents, the Northern Tigers.

The team receives a boost with the return from injury of our co-captain Riley Oitmann who is looking fresh and ready to go.

As a squad we have had a good two weeks in training and if we do the little things right, we are confident we will be heading to the Grand Final.

Andrew Johns Cup (U/16s)

Macarthur Wests Tigers vs Newcastle-Maitland Knights

Coach – Harrison Fox

On Sunday we come up against a tough Newcastle side that has the home ground advantage in a do or die semi-final.

Our boys know the challenge that awaits them and have trained really well this week. If we complete our sets, and get in the grind early, we will be successful.
