The Wests Tigers Pathways sides were spread across two venues over the weekend, with the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup team securing a big win.
KOE NSW Cup vs St George-Illawarra Dragons: 42-8 win
Western Suburbs Magpies produced another strong performance against the Dragons, winning 42-8 at Croom on Sunday in Round 18 of The Knock On Effect NSW Cup.
Fresh from a bye last week, the Magpies led 12-8 at half-time before stamping their authority in the second half in an impressive performance.
The Magpies ran in seven tries to two with talented young half-back Javon Andrews finishing the game with a personal haul of 18 points through a try and seven goals.
In a see-sawing first half, the Magpies crossed first through centre Fiohiva Fainga'a before the Dragons hit back to take the lead.
Andrews then showed a clean pair of heels after backing up a break from five-eighth Latu Fainu to race away to score for a 12-6 lead. The Dragons then crossed again to trail by four at the break.
However, the second half belonged to the Magpies, who ran in five tries to completely dominate the home side.
Full-back Heath Mason got the ball rolling with a chip kick from Andrews to score next to the posts in the 52nd minute.
Fainu crossed four minutes later when he put through a grubber kick for himself to score after some razzle dazzle play.
Returning Wests Tigers winger Junior Tupou crossed for his first try back at the Club after the ball was shifted across the backline following an intercept break from Fainga'a.
Wests centre Solomone Saukuru scored out wide in the 71st minute before lock Mavrik Geyer crossed five minutes later from a perfectly weighted Fainu grubber kick.
Andrews had a perfect day with the boot, kicking seven from seven.
The win sees the Magpies in seventh place ahead of a home clash against the Warriors at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday, 11 July, at 1.30pm.
NSW Women’s Premiership vs Parramatta Eels: 20-6 loss
A spirited Wests Tigers lost 20-6 to Parramatta Eels in Round 4 of the NSW Women’s Premiership on Sunday.
Trailing 10-0 at half-time, the Tigers got back to within four following a fine try to Rayven-Jodeci Boyce after the lock produced a classic dummy before straightening up to crash over next to the posts.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Eels scored two more tries to claim victory at Kellyville.
Wests Tigers will be looking to secure their first win of the season when they take on St George Dragons at Kogarah on Saturday,11 July, at 1.00pm.
Jersey Flegg vs St George-Illawarra Dragons: 52-22 loss
A dominant first half from St George-Illawarra saw Wests Tigers suffer a 52-22 defeat at Croom on Sunday in Round 18 of the Jersey Flegg Cup.
The Dragons dominated the first half to lead 30-8 before going in with the job in a nine tries to five win to remain on top of the ladder.
Winger Jack Nicholas crossed for the Tigers opening try in the 12th minute after latching on to a floating cut out pass from half-back Heith Pritchard.
Seven minutes later, five-eighth Sonny Edwards-Moeke scored the Wests Tigers second try after stepping off his left foot to carry two defenders over the line.
Trailing 34-8, Tigers winger Logan Brookes crossed for the first of two tries in three minutes before finishing off a nice backline shift to the right to score untouched.
Nicholas grabbed his second try two minutes from full-time, pouncing on a kick from full-back Jack Attard to score in the corner.
The loss leaves the Tigers in fourth spot ahead of a clash with the eighth-placed Warriors at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday, 11 July, at 11.30am.
