Wests Tigers Pathways sides recorded mixed results across two venues over the weekend, with the NSW Women's Premiership team recording their first win of the season.
NSW Women’s Premiership vs Dragons: 30-8 win
Wests Tigers recorded an impressive 30-8 victory over the Dragons at Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah, on Saturday, to record their first win of the season.
Winger Tia-Jordyn Vasilovski scored the first of her three tries, showing great pace to cross in the 17th minute.
Tyla Amiatu got her first of two tries after beating the defence with a tap-in from a 25-metre run to the line.
A few minutes later, Amiatu crossed for her second after carrying three defenders over the line, giving the Tigers a 16-4 lead at half-time.
A nice break from half-back Jetaya Faifua down the left edge saw Vasilovski finish off a 70-metre play for her second try.
Second-rower Lahnayah Monschau grabbed the team’s fifth try, using her strength to beat a defender from close range.
Vasilovski grabbed her hat-trick when she pounced on a grubber kick from Faifua to dive over in the corner.
The Tigers will be travelling to CommBank Stadium this Thursday, 16 July, to take on the Penrith Panthers away at 5.25pm.
KOE NSW Cup vs Warriors: 44-20 loss
A three-game winning run for the Western Suburbs Magpies in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup ended abruptly at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday.
The Magpies suffered a 44-20 loss after trailing 22-8 at half-time, with Solomone Saukuru scoring a double in the Round 19 match.
Centre Fiohiva Fainga'a crossed for the Magpies first try in the 11th minute after he kicked the ball through to score after winger Tino Tavana leapt high to defuse a Jock Madden bomb.
Saukuru scored his first try in the 28th minute after running off a crisp pass from five-eighth Javon Andrews.
He grabbed his second 30 minutes later when he chimed in off another lovely ball from Andrews to push off a defender and crossed out wide.
The home side finished off their scoring in the final minute when second-rower Ethan Roberts showed some fine soccer skills to toe the ball through from a long run.
The loss leaves the Magpies in eighth place ahead of Sunday’s match against the fourth-placed Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground at 2.15pm.
Jersey Flegg vs Warriors: 40-6 loss
Wests Tigers had a tough day out at Lidcombe Oval, going down 40-6 to the Warriors.
The Warriors ran in eight tries to one after leading 16-0 at half-time.
Five-eighth Jack Attard scored the Tigers’ lone try after swooping on a grubber kick from half-back Matthew Barakat.
The loss leaves Wests Tigers in sixth place ahead of Sunday’s match against the third-placed Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground at 12pm.
