Wests Tigers would like to congratulate Bryan Schafer on being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) as a part of the 2017 Australia Day Honours.
Schafer was involved with the Western Suburbs Magpies for more than 25 years and is affectionately known as Bluey.
Throughout his time with the Magpies, Schafer acted as manager, junior representative secretary, first grade assistant coach, grounds manager, sin bin official, gear steward and change room manager.
In 2007 he was named club Past Players’ Association clubman of the year and became a life member in 2014.
Having served in the Australian Army for 30 years, he also felt passionately about supporting veterans and their families. He has worked with the South West Metropolitan Branch of Sydney Legacy since 1992.
Schafer will receive his OAM for his services to Rugby League and to veterans and their families.
