Wests Tigers fight back to defeat Saints

Wests Tigers Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership side have scored their second win of the 2019 season with a gritty 20-14 victory at St Mary's Leagues Stadium this afternoon.

With just one win to their name prior to the Round 10 clash at St. Mary's, Wests Tigers showed tremendous fight to come from 14-4 down early in the second half to claim a thrilling six-point win that moves them to the edge of the top eight.

The side will have two weeks off before facing Cabramatta in Round 13.

Emily and Sophie Curtain became the first graduates from the club's Tarsha Gale side to the senior women's team, and it was Emily who got the game off to the perfect start for Wests Tigers by crossing for her first try after just two minutes.

St. Mary's soon hit back, however, with Oneata Schwalger and Michaela Emblem crossing in quick succession to give the hosts a 10-4 lead at the break.

When Pauline Piliae scored early in the second half it appeared that another tough loss was on the cards for Wests Tigers before tries to Botille Vette-Welsh and Charmayne Nathan pulled the visitors back level with over 20 minutes still to play.

Boosted by a player advantage following Oneata Schwalger's sin-bin, Wests Tigers re-took the lead through Tyler Pelligra in the 60th minute with Curtain adding the extras to give her side a six-point lead they would hold firm to the end.

Wests Tigers 20 (E.Curtain, Vette-Welsh, Nathan, Pelligra tries; E.Curtain 2/4 goals) def. St. Mary's 14 (Schwalger, Emblem, Piliae tries; Harrison 1/3 goals)
