Vale Don Malone

Wests Tigers would like to extend their condolences to the family of Don Malone following his recent passing.

Don "Irish" Malone played the entirety of his first-grade career with the Western Suburbs Magpies, debuting on the wing in 1958 before shifting in to the halves.

Malone started on the wing for the Magpies in their 1959 Grand Final loss to St. George, and despite missing the 1961 Grand Final, also played in two more Grand Finals against the all-conquering Dragons in 1962 and 1963.

In total, Malone played 130 games for Western Suburbs — 68 of which were in first-grade — and helped the Magpies clinch the 1961 reserve grade competition.

Following his retirement from the game at the end of the 1965 season, Malone would remain connected with the Magpies, coaching third grade for three years where he would snare another Grand Final trophy.

The thoughts of all at Wests Tigers are with Don's family at this time.
